October is the perfect month to dive into a new reading challenge! With so many book challenges happening this month, itโ€™s a chance to stretch your imagination, explore new genres, and connect with other passionate readers.

Week 1: New Beginnings

  1. Read a book by a Black indie author.

  2. Pick a book with a pink cover (Breast Cancer Awareness Month).

  3. Share your current read on social media with #BRAEReads.

  4. Read a short story or novella.

  5. Choose a book recommended by a friend.

  6. Start a book outside your favorite genre.

  7. Listen to an audiobook while walking or relaxing.

Week 2: Expanding Horizons
8. Read a book by a debut author.
9. Pick up a nonfiction book that teaches you something new.
10. Revisit a book you loved as a teen.
11. Read a poem (or collection) and share a favorite line.
12. Try a book from a global Black author (Africa, Caribbean, UK, etc.).
13. Choose a book with strong female characters.
14. Spend 30 minutes reading outdoors.

Week 3: Community & Connection
15. Read a book that was turned into a movie/series.
16. Join a virtual or local book club discussion.
17. Pick a book written in the last two years.
18. Read a book featuring friendship or community themes.
19. Support a local bookstore or library.
20. Read the first chapter of three different booksโ€”decide which one hooks you.
21. Recommend a book to someone else.

Week 4: Reflection & Celebration
22. Read a memoir or biography.
23. Choose a spooky or thriller book for Halloween vibes.
24. Share a reading selfie or your cozy book nook.
25. Read for at least one uninterrupted hour.
26. Journal your thoughts about your favorite character this month.
27. Re-read a favorite childhood picture book.
28. Read a book of poetry by a Black author.
29. Choose a book that makes you laugh.
30. End the month with a book that inspires hope or healing.
